Isin't that new ship Oasis of the Seas topheavy?

The vessel looks to be top heavy. Width verses height. Are there stabilizers on it? How much draft does she take in?

Answer :
Even though it looks top heavy, all the heavy weights are in the lower hull: engines, fuel, water and ballast. Passangers ships are designed to have a very long slow rolling period for the comfort of the passangers. To do this the ship's center of gravity is a little higher up than would be found on a cargo ship or tanker.

Answer :
Oasis measures 225,282 gross tons,[1] almost half again as large as the runners-up, the vessels of the Freedom class, and several times larger than Titanic, of 46,329 gross register tons (a different measure of tonnage).[20] To displace the volume of water necessary for the ship to float, and to keep the ship stable without increasing the draft excessively, the designers created a wide hull. About 30 feet (9 m) of the ship sits beneath the water, a small percentage of the ship's overall height. Wide, shallow ships such as this tend to be "snappy", meaning that they can snap back upright after a wave has passed, which can potentially be uncomfortable.[20]

The ship's power comes from six marine diesel engines, three Wärtsilä 16-cylinder common rail diesels producing 18,860 kilowatts (25,290 hp) each, and three similar 12-cylinder engines each producing 13,860 kilowatts (18,590 hp).[8][21] The total output of these prime movers, some 97,020 kilowatts (130,110 hp), is converted to electricity, used in hotel power for operation of the lights, elevators, electronics, galleys, water treatment plant, and all of the other systems used on the operation of the vessel, as well as propulsion. Propulsion is not provided by screws on the end of long shafts piercing the hull, as on most prior ships, but by three, 20,000 kilowatts (26,800 hp) "Azipods", Asea Brown Boveri's brand of azimuth thrusters. These pods, suspended under the stern, each contain an electric motor driving a 20-foot (6 m) propeller.[8] As they are rotatable, no rudders are needed to steer the ship. Docking is assisted by four 5,500 kilowatts (7,380 hp) bow thrusters in tunnels.[21]

If it wasn't okay, it would have never passed the design stage. Naval architects would check that kind of thing.

Reserving private poolside-cabanas on rccl's oasis of the seas possible for everyone?

i would like to know if everyone on board of the cruise-ship "oasis of the seas" can make a reservation for a private cabana or if they are exclusively reserved for guests in bigger suites? are there any other cruise ships where you can "rent" cabanas and how much does it usually cost?

Answer :
i wasnt aware that the oasis had cabanas.
this would be something i'd like to find out as
well because my cruise on the oasis is
in about 82 days :)

What cruise should we go on?

My family is planing to go on a cruise and I don't which one suits us best. I am 13, my sister 18, and my mom. My cousins and aunt and uncle might come (Ages 11 and 8). We don't really like do the group activities, we really like just doing what ever we want whenever we want. The adults do really anything special besides watching the shows, going to the bar and restaurants, some group activities (dance etc.).
I like pools, water slides, I would really like if they had sports on board, and video games or just norm games. My mom wants to go on Royal Caribbean Oasis of the Seas. Can you tell me any other good cruises that fight our preferences?

Answer :
You sound like you defiantly want Oasis of the Seas, in the way of sports there is a zip line, two rock climbing walls, two flow riders (surfing machines), a nine hole mini golf course, many pools, an ice skating rink, the list goes on and on!! Plus the onboard H20 Zone (waterpark like area) and carousel would be great for 8 and 11. Plus there are many activities for adults too, big spa, HUGE adult only area, shopping, gambling, etc... lots to do. The Freedom Class ships would be the next best (freedom, liberty, independence) If you are on a tight budget I would go with Carnival though, they are pretty good as well. Hope this helps!

All the answers were good and I will try to contact you if had your information up. I made a mistake in the question, I meant to say the adults DON'T do anything special. Thanks 4 the FYI and I hope we do go on the Oasis of the Seas, but even if we do go on a different ship I will hopefully fun.THNX

Answer :
I suggest that you take a Carnival cruise or a Royal Caribbean cruise. The Oasis of the seas is Royals newest ship. Carnival`s newest ship is the Dream. The lines are similar in many ways but the Royal ships have more amenities-such as Rock climbing walls, Ice skating rinks and Flo-rider in the water area. They all have good food, fun activities and great shows. Below is a great link to compare prices, ports and ships. Good luck!

http://vacationstogo.com/cruise_lines.cf…

Hope I helped!

Answer :
You definitely would be happiest on a Royal Caribbean ship. Oasis is the biggest cruise ship in the world and is brand new. It has more of the things you and your family like than any other ship. Second choice would be the Liberty of the Seas, and then Freedom. They all have ice skating, flow riders(surfing) and much more. I am a cruise specialist and would love to help your family set this up at no cost to you and special low prices. My contact info is below.

Answer :
Any cruise line is fine and any destination is fine. You all seem to want to do the things that are included on the ship. Go to vacationstogo.com and cruisedeals.com and search for the cheapest inside cabins (you will not be in them very much0. Pick the port you can drive to and go from there. Be flexible as to dates and lenght of cruise. Enjoy!

Answer :
Since there is you and ur sister go for carnival i love it i have been on 7 carnival cruises and i love them and im 14

How much do cruise ships make per trip?

i DO NOT want to know how much it cost to go on a cruise

i DO want to know how much the actual cruise ships make per trip or year

espically ships like the oasis of the sea

Answer :
There is no way anyone could tell you that. After all, some cruise ships hold 1000 passengers and some hold 5000. Some are twice as long as others and weigh a lot more. Some ships sail different itineraries. Some are much longer (like 2-3 weeks) and some are 3-4 days. Some ships sell more alcohol than other ships. Older ships are less fuel efficient. If you think about it, your cars gas mileage changes with each 100 lbs added. On a cruise ship that could easily be a difference of 5 million lbs from week to week if each person weighs 100 lbs more than the passenger the week before. Even the number of paying passengers can vary by about 1,000 depending on how many kids are on board. The price people are paying varies week to week and if everyone pays $200 less than the last cruise, that varies by 1 million. Fuel costs can double from one week to the next which just caused Royal to go through a $125 million restructuring plan.

There are little factors like how active the casino is that week as well as the casino and the alcohol are the two areas the ship makes their profit for the week. Some weeks the spa doesn't turn a profit. The casino and shops are both closed while you are at port. When you leave a port earlier (lets say 3pn instead of 8pm) that gives both more time to make that money.

Royal's overhead is much higher than Carnival's. Net income for the second quarter this year fell to $84.4m compared with $128.7m a year ago. That's 3 million a week change. If we just average the 2 of those (very unscientifically), that would give us a net income of $426 million a year.

So basically cruise ships are talking a variation of 10 million each week. What's a million here or a million there. Then of course a more luxurious line than Royal Caribbean would be charging more, sailing longer, and having more expensive decor and food brought in each week.

There is no way anyone could have that kind of information. I watched a show on the travel channel with a Norwegian cruise and they wouldn't even tell the producers the operating budget for the cruise for that one trip. What I can tell you is they spent 1.4 billion on the Oasis, that it has penthouses that cost as much as $34,000 a week. I can also tell you a Mediterranean cruise costs about 2-3 times what a Caribbean cruise does for the same 7 days. Repositioning cruises rarely sail with more than 60% occupancy so you want to do that as rarely as possible. I can also tell you that according to the Travel Channel's Norwegian trip, the cruise ship industry usually does not turn a profit until the beginning of the 6th day on a 7 day sailing. At that point it makes profit quicker though as the ship weighs a lot less than it did when it started (less food, less fuel).

I hope this helps you somewhat.

Answer :
Tropics answer is wrong. Most cruise lines are publicly traded and release financial reports all the time. Follow the link and you can pour thru Carnival's financial statements for hours. Most others, like Royal Caribbean and NCL are available as well.

Of course, it's going to vary by ship and sailing and no two will be the same. But it would be pretty easy to figure an average.

Good luck.

Answer :
Depends on many factors from capacity to sales on the ship to excursions. If no one ever bought anything on the ship or through the sip they would lost a ton of money.

The biggest factor to put them well over the top is alcohol sales.

If a ship is at 92% capacity and people spend in an 'average way', they just make a profit.

Answer :
The only way you will get that information with any degree of reliability is from the cruise companies, and that information is not released except to their shareholders, accountants, and the tax authorities.

Which is a better teen cruise ship, the oasis of the seas, or the carnival dream?

i was wondering which cruise would be better to go on for my teens, they like to do things like minigolf, waterslides, rock climbing, all kinds of adventurous stuff. so i was wondering which ship: the carnival dream, or the royal carribean oasis of the seas will make them happier, without totally destroying my wallet. THANKS

Answer :
Carnival will probably have more kids however Royal of the Caribbean has way newer ships like the Oasis and there will definitely be more to do and the ship will probably be like twice the size of the Carnival ship. I haven't been on either but I think Royal Caribbean is definitely the way to go.

Answer :
The Carnival Dream doesn't have a rock climbing wall

Carnival tends to teens more but Royal's ships have WAY more to do

Royal, however, will destroy your wallet. Oasis is a brand new ship that will have it's first sailing December 1st and is the largest cruise ship in the world

Dream is smaller but still new and much cheaper

Answer :
Well, really this comes down to preference. Both are excellent lines, but your best bet would be to sit down with your teenagers and ask their opinions by looking at the ship information on the websites of Carnival and Royal Caribbean. Btw, so you know, rock climbing isn't really adventurous anymore. Just about everyone out there does rock wall climbing. In any case, you really need to make the decision as a family. Only way you can really ensure you all are happy with the decision.

Answer :
No question about it, The Oasis of The Seas is your ship. Rock walls, Ice skating rink and Flo-rider!!..........Read below please...

The Oasis of the Seas is truly a one-of-a-kind ship, accommodating over 5,000 passengers. Eighteen decks high, this ship has more than enough to offer any guest. Travel between the seven neighborhoods that divide the ship, experiencing something unique in each. In Central Park, peruse the art gallery or unwind in the sophisticated wine bar. Or for the more adventurous spirits, the Boardwalk offers the world’s first onboard carousel and zipline, as well as two rock-climbing walls. Guests can also treat themselves at the Boardwalk Donut Shop or the Ice Cream Parlor. The heart of the ship lies in the Royal Promenade, with a variety of dining and entertainment options. It features Rising Tide: a levitating bar that ascends and descends over three decks. When passengers are ready to indulge their appetites, they can choose from numerous dining options including Chops Steak House, Sorrento’s Pizzeria, Seafood Shack and Johnny Rockets®, just to name a few. In addition to traditional staterooms, the Oasis of the Seas offers state-of-the-art lofts and multi-level suites to accommodate her guests.

Chaos Theory: Could the launch of the giant cruise ship cause the water to displace and flood Britain?

"Oasis of the seas"
This is surely a factor? :)

What do you reckon?

Haha! Smudge I knew someone would give me some maths
BOB you ole pessimist did the yanks use all our resources again then?

Answer :
Thankfully the only matter actually displaced consists of wealthy old widows, couples from Hemel Hempstead celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary and forty-somethings with fake tans. Sending these out to sea seems rather fortuitous. Toodle pip.

I smell another conspiracy look 'ere "wealthy" people on top-heavy boat (in more ways than one) just gotta sink hasn't it?
Another opportunity for programs about treasure hunters/robbers and nauseous Hollywood tragic love films I can sense the Mills and Boon types will be heaving over this novel.

Answer :
As Smudge suggests - the linear effect of displacement will not cause a problem - however Chaos theory supposed that small changes can accrue - and lead to larger ones- we presume this is how eddies and whorls arrive in streams which can lead to crashing torrents - if the launch of the ship caused an initial wave - that wave could be the initial source which accrues- and be like the butterflies wings.

Answer :
3 scenarios that could make it happen are

1) If the ship was soooooo large that it raised the sea level through out the entire world.

2) A very very very very large ship launched from Ireland that caused a tidal wave so large that it transversed the ocean and covered Britian.

3) The conditions were so right that wave interference created a large tidal wave.

In reality though, I don't see any of those scenarios ever happening.

Answer :
the surface area of the sea is 36100000000000 m^2 or 36100000 km^2
the volume of water displaced by the oasis of the seas is 160,000 m^3
This would mean that the average increase in sea depth is 4.43 x10^-9 m which is 0.00000443mm so is going to make very little change at all

Answer :
I think you will find that the vast mass of materials used to construct this Leviathan has somewhat decreased the mass of Dear Old Blighty. Thus Blighty will float more precariously upon the Earth's upper mantle. Thus leading to ten years of drought, famine and pestilence.

I hope I helped.

Answer :
No but if the butterfly effect theory is correct then there should be a tsunami on the other side of the world!

Answer :
Well, it didn't do this when it stopped off at Southampton on it's way across the Atlantic. But it wasn't launched there so I don't suppose it would!

Answer :
Doubt it old fruit, Brown has bled the country so dry the moment the wave hits blighty it will be sucked in and lost forever.

Are dogs allowed on Royal Caribbean's Oasis of the Seas?

If you don't know, please, save us both some time and don't write "idk"...don't write anything at all. If you know and dogs ARE allowed on the ship, where can they go and be at? Are they allowed in your room? In Central Park? Is there a kennel on-board? I know they have a pet shop on-board so it would be really retarded if they didn't allow pets...thanks!

Answer :
No pet-dogs allowed on the Oasis of the Seas. The only dogs allowed would be service dogs(for a blind passenger).

Im fairly certain that the only cruise line to accept dogs is, Cunards QE2 with restrictions.

Hope I helped!

Answer :
I was just on a cruise and was shocked to see a dog! Come to find out it belonged to the magician and was part of his show. Your dog however would not be allowed unless you need a service dog or get hired for a performance.

Answer :
There are no pets allowed on Royal Caribbean unless you show documentation that it is a service animal - sorry

How long do u wait before getting flight details through for a cruise, we're due to depart from UK on 4th Oct?

Just wondered out of interest.
Hol due to be paid in May and just wondered when we'd get flt details through.
Travlling with Royal Caribbean (Oasis of the Seas)
Thanks.

Answer :
You should get your documents 120 to 90 days before your cruise. Your travel agent will let you know. If you do not get them by say 45 days, then contact the travel agent asap. I don't know about Royal Caribbean, but with Princess, most of your documents you get on line from your itinerary to your boarding pass. The only thing they send is you flight info, and your luggage tags. Even your flight tickets are E tickets with Princess. So this may be the same with RC too.

Answer :
This sounds funny.

Even 11 months away they should have given you the basic flight details (which might actually vary a bit timewise on final confirmation).

Having to pay by May is also unusual, don't know of any other cruise line wanting to be paid in full 5 months before the trip, usually it's 8 weeks! Unless it is a big discounter who wants paying on booking but of course you are then paying a lot les than dealing with the line direct.

Answer :
If you booked your flights through the cruise line [hopefully you didn't], then you may not find out your flights until a couple of weeks before your flight. You'll get a much better deal and better connections and flights if you book the flights yourself, usually. You also won't get your cruise documents until a month or so before your cruise.

Answer :
You have plenty of time to look/wait for deals. Start looking now to see how it looks, but dont book yet. Check every airline that you can possibly use to travel and apply all discounts (such as an auto club).
We usually book flights 6/7 months before we depart. Also, most airlines will give you a credit if the price drops from the time you book to the time near departure. Keep that in mind. I saved $265 one year, just by checking there website`s prices.

Hope I helped!

Who's going on Oasis of the Seas?

On the 5th of December?
I can't wait!

Answer :
A friend of mine took a cruise on the Oasis this past weekend. He posted 145 pics on his Facebook. No two were of the same thing. It looks fantastic! Have a great time!!

Answer :
No thanks.
The thought of 5000+ people in one ship fills me with dread!
The thought of 100 coaches for a shore excursion is mind boggling!
Just getting on or off will be a slow logistical nightmare....let alone the thought of breakfast time.....
We gave up big ships after going on a 109,000 ton one. 225,000 tons is just excessive gone mad!

20+ cruises from Arctic to Antarctic and everywhere in between. Apart from the first few cruises all are in small ships now that don't only stop at tourist trap towns!

Answer :
Lucky you! Let us know how you like it.

I'm headed out on the 14th, but not on Oasis.
